I found this guy (girl?) in a shipment of Common Bristlenoses. When not stressed out, the fish is nearly black with many small, whitish-yellow spots. It's definitely not an L-182, which is what I normally see with the Common Bristlenoses. Any ideas?

(Sorry about the crappy pics)

A guess that possibly isn't anywhere near as well educated as it should be, and based upon some fairly fuzzy visual matching, but how about L-003?

Here's Plante Catfish's L-003 page - your fish looks somewhat like this one to me.

Put this suggestion on the "tentative ID" list until Cup_of_Lifenoodles casts his much more expert eye over it and delivers what in all probability will be a better suggestion!

That does look a bit like it, but the spots on mine are smaller and I am positive it's an Ancistrus. Although they can be seen in the photos, this fish does have bristles. They are also only around the mouth though (as opposed to the "nose" area), so I'm also willing to bet my fish is a female.

Just looking through the Cat-eLog for Ancistrus, it appears that there's like a dozen species that look very much like mine. And those are just the species with photos...

I'd just guess that it's one of the undescribed Ancistrus species without an L number. There's too many to count and a lot of them are hard to tell apart. I have no idea how far this fish could be narrowed down. Looks nice though.

It is indeed an ancistrus. Which one, I could not begin to tell you without checking some resource, and well, I'm too lazy. Honestly, though, there are just too many similar looking black spotted ancistrus to identify that even then, it's hard to id such a fish spot on. Although, most, especially the spotted-eyed rimmed fish are blackwater species, if that helps at all.
