Hi there,
I have a very small little rubbernose pleco,
and recently a pet store near me has some other
very small rubbernose plecos.
Just wondering if it would be at all possible to
keep more than one? Would they fight? Or would it
be a match made in heaven so to speak?
The one I have is in a 10g tank right now, If I did
get another 1 or 2 or something, I would move them into my 25g tank.
So, whats the word?

I've seen them fighting a bit at work, though it wasn't anything serious. If each fish has its own territory where it can remain safe from the others, they should be fine together in a tank.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

Make sure you have hiding places & you shouldn't have any problems.

i tend to live by i piece of driftwood per pleco rule, althought they like rock caves etc they only seem to fight over driftwood in my tanks. im not personally familar with rubbernose's but to me BN's are the most aggressive around even above common plecs for me

A second question:
Are rubbernose plecos easy to breed?
My boyfriend has suggested that he would like
to try to breed rubbernose plecos.
What would we need, how to go about it?
How many rubbernose would we need? I think the
LFS has 3 of them for sale.
Whats a good way to check gender?

I've only heard of a handful of documented (as in, photographic) reports of c. thomsoni spawning, though many have claimed to do so. Other less common chaetostoma spawns are even rarer and evidence more sparse. It can, apparently, be done though.

Spawning tanks should be lined with gravel and thick riverstones with HEAVY current. Reports vary in that some state that the species in question is a cave spawner while others digress from the cave route. I would include several slate caves just in case, pointed, of course, in the opposite direction of the current. The pectoral and pelvic fins of the male are noticeably fuller and longer than that of the females. Protein should be fed at least once every week for conditioning.
