I've had a female BN for just over 2 years, she's probably 4" or so.

There's a chance that my ex will be bringing my son's male here (background info). He's fully grown as well.

I plan to add him to the tank that the female lives in. Are there compatability issues between male & female BNs?

Would a clay pot work for breeding or do they prefer something else?

Thanks

Theresa, there is a good article about breeding bristlenose in the September & October 2006 issues of Tropical Fish Hobbyist magazine. It pretty much covers all you would need to know for breeding these fish.

Don't know if you have access to the magazine or not, but it may be worth the effort to try and locate copies. Your local library may have them available.

I do remember that they like to breed in caves just large enough to fit into and that if available a group of females with two males is best, but not absolutely necessary for success.

I know that's not a lot of help, but I'm sure there will be more input from others.

At least i would add a piece of Bog/Drift wood in the BN tank. A clay pot is good aswell, but i always read that they prefer some wood.

Wish you luck with the breeding & hope i'll fina a Female BN for my male soon.........

There is very little you need to know. Condition with daily vegetables, especially peas and beans which are both fiber-bound and prtein rich, as well as the rare bloodworm. Provide caves and flow. Following this, you'll hard pressed for them NOT to breed in your tank.
