Hi all,

Just saw one of my BN plecos on it's back under a piece of driftwood.
Now before you think the worst it got up and swam into a driftwood hollow. But this sight was a bit disturbing, it's at least 10cm long and one of my 'older' fish and I'd hate to think something was wrong.
Has anyone ever seen this sort of behaviour?

Macbeth, my BNs love to swim under driftwoods and stay upside down. I dont really think its a problem if this is what you mean.

If it is rasping onto the wood upsidedown then don`t worry, if it has swam under the log into the darkness and just led down upsidedown on the substrate then do worry

Hi Perky,
Yep that's what it was doing, lying on the substrate on its back, hence the concern.

What other fish are in the tank and what are the nitrate, nitrite and ammonia levels? Has it ate lately?

I wouldn't worry about it too much.

My pleco would always try and suck on the underside of leaves and stuff, and he couldn't stay on too long. Eventually he would fall off, but it would take him about five seconds to relaize it and try and get back on.

I don't think plecos are the brightest fish in the river...

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

Oh the humour of it all!
Had a chuckle reading your reply Cory Addict.
Yeah they're not the sharpest chisel in the tool box.

As far as water goes everything is fine, Ammonia 0 Nitrites 0, pH 7 GH around 18-20dGH.
I thought of the food angle too and put in a piece of zuccini, I've seen two BN's having a go at it but is the 'strange' one one of them? I don't know, haven't seen 3 at the same time and can't see the third one anywhere about but that's not unusual they've gone weeks without me seeing them, only that bits of zucc or cucumber get eaten is any proof they exist.
Not much I can do about it I suppose.
The idea ofthem falling off an underside piece of driftwood and just laying there.

Help! Help! I'm falling! I'm falling!
(Hits the ground) Oh what was that?
Help! Help! I'm not falling! I'm not falling!

Quite possible.

OMG Macbeth, I was about to post the same concern! Yesterday (Monday) I came home after being away for the weekend to find my female BN (3"on her back underneath the driftwood not latched on to anything! I was very very concerned, I even did a 40% water change! (Even thought the parameters of my water is perfect.) She ended up flipping over and swimming to another part of the tank. I looked her over and she seemed fine, I thought she might be sick.
I'm glad to see that you all seem to feel this behavior is okay, I feel much better.
