WINDOWS!!! lol

Don't you mean the tank!

Anyway a pleco is usually a bigger version of a catfish.

If you are referring to [link=these]http://fishprofiles.com/profiles/fishfinder.asp?key=bristle&salinity=&family=&geographic=&ecosystem=&temperament=&diet=&size=&waterregion=&lifestyle=" style="COLOR: #FFFFFF[/link] profiles, it's quite easy to see the difference. The most common BN is the last one, Ancistrus triradiatus. They will clean the glass for you, but you also need to supplement their diet with fresh veggies (lettuce, cucumber, and the like), sinking wafers, and other sinking pellets.

[link=Clown plecos]http://fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/clownpanaque.xml" style="COLOR: #FFFFFF[/link] actually do not eat algae, except for the rare individual exception. If you have one you need to have driftwod in the tank, as they will munch on it. They'll also eat veggies. Both BN and clown plecs also enjoy hanging out on the driftwood during the day and come out the most at night.

First, plecos are all actually catfish. The bushy/bristlenose pleco and catfish are the same exact things, the two names go for the same group of fish. All fish in the genus Ancistrus can be known under the "bristlenose" moniker.

Secondly, the first BN (bristlenose) profile is the one that depicts the most common fish. More specifically, it goes for the many Ancistrus catfish that have not been scientifically described yet, and are known as Ancistrus sp. Some of these fish are variations of described species; nonetheless, they all go by Ancistrus sp.

Last, as Dani said, clown plecos are usually poor algae eaters. They prefer munching on driftwood, and actually need driftwood to stay at optimum health.

I'm very sorry for your loss. Usually BN are quite hardy.
Bogwood & Driftwood are the same. I think they come from different places & that's the only difference.

Sorry for the loss, while BN's are very hardy they can still be affected by hardness shock that is going from a very soft GH to a very hard GH or vice versa this could have been the cause

Have a chat with the aquarium you purchased him/her from and compare the GH in their tanks to yours if its any more than 5 points on the German scale then theres your problem

Not necessarily. Having the "correct" gH and pH for your fish isn't nearly as important as keeping water quality high, not overfeeding, and all that. My bristlenose pleco resides in a tank with other South American fish. The pH is 7.8, and the gH is quite high as well. None of my fish have a problem with that; not my tetras, cories, or plecos (I've got a blue phantom plec as well). In fact, my lemon tetras spawn regularly. They don't seem to care that my pH is "wrong" for them, since I keep my water nice and clean through regular water changes.

I'd put the BN's death down to some kind of stress from acclimation. I don't know all of the factors, so that's the best guess I can come up with.

i know my kh is around 9-10, gh is somewhere in the middle range also...

i think my tank will be ok without him, he was my first BN tho, took forever to find one in las vegas, and it was $13 for a 2 inch little fellow

i just purchased 4 otos to replace the BN, and all 4 of them are peachy great too, and cleaned a lot of my algea
