Hey there.. just wondering why alot of Bns i see have like white/brown blotches on them.. is it something to do with diet, water quality, etc.??

I was kind of wondering the same thing...I have seen some in stores that had blotches so I asked the clerk and they told me that sometimes the fish rub up against something like the heater (and maybe burned)
Nevertheless, I did not purchase any of the fish. Anyone else know for sure?

I have a very nice brown BN who gets splotchy when stressed, I don't know if that's common or not though

My BN has a very small white patch on his tail. I've attributed it to him always hanging out behind my heater and his tail rubbing against it.

i was reading this in an article on Bns just before..
"Another thing I have noticed is that their colour changes depending on the situation, like when they are in the dark, they tend to get lighter. The male is usually harder to find, as he gets much lighter and his spots go sort of "blotchy," while the female is a glorious deep dark brown. Dad does go dark also once he’s been out and about for a while. I always think of it as though they have just "gotten a tan," but it is definitely mood related, and perhaps it could be some indication of spawning"
