I have a male/female pair in my 20 gal..great little fish..very peaceful..but lost them Hadn't gotten a lid yet for that tank..and think my son put something in the tank that threw the chemical levels WAY off because amonia sky rocketted. |

They've officially been renamed to dario dario this year. If so, Sin's info are for badis badis as you asked, but not for the scarlet badis on the fish wizard's site. I'm pretty sure thier care and breeding would be the same though....sorta like there are tons of corys, but their pretty much all the same |

Feeding. If any of you guys know this stuff, please post. If you keep them, it would help to hear your experiences [span class="edited"][Edited by Callatya 2004-07-26 23:44][/span] I'll do graffiti, If you sing to me in French. |

Jubs![]() ![]() ![]() Enthusiast Posts: 150 Kudos: 131 Registered: 06-Dec-2003 ![]() | Oh do you mean these ? They are cool little fish I have only had mine for about a month they aren't picky about their water they eat everything i give them ( I only feed my fish frozen ( Hikari ) and live food ) They seem to get along great with my gobies their only tank mates. They are in a 10g and seem to be nice and happy they like to hang out in the rock work i have in the tank as well one hangs out in a little "cave" alot ( its just a space under one of the rocks that has some space between the bottom of the rock and the gravel ) I haven't attempted to spawn them I'll get back to you on that in a couple months ![]() ![]() ![]() HTH, JW[/font][/font][/font] |

If so, Sin's info are for badis badis as you asked, but not for the scarlet badis on the fish wizard's site. I have 2 in a 33G community tank with harlequins, endlers, otos, a mix of shrimp and a female betta without any problems. They are territorial amongst themselves but I've seen very little aggression towards other fish or shrimp. I've heard they do get aggressive during breeding, but who doesn't? They don't get much larger than 1 inch - mine are around 3/4 of an inch. I haven't been able to get them to eat anything but live food. And I've need seen mine go more than 6 inches from the bottom of the tank, so be careful the other fish in the tank don't out compete them for food. Here's a good article on breeding them: http://www.svas.info/Newsletter/badis.html I haven't been able to get mine to breed yet - I may have 2 males but I'm not sure since not all females are greyish like the one in the article. Some look like a dull colored male. I have seen mine go into a mating ball in some java moss though. [span class="edited"][Edited by Vumeter 2004-07-28 17:05][/span] |

~ Sin ~![]() ![]() Mega Fish Posts: 1252 Votes: 28 Registered: 24-Mar-2003 ![]() | I was curious, so I did some googling. ![]() (just note - this is all briefly researched info. I have no experience with these fish )Temprament: "It is an extremely temperamental fish, certainly not to be trusted with fishes smaller than itself, or with fish having long flowing finnage, examples being the Angel Fish (Pterophyllum scalare), the Pearl Gourami (Trichogaster leeri) and the Siamese Fighting Fish (Betta splendens)." From what I gathered, It CAN be kept in community tanks, just excercise some caution & provide plenty of cover ![]() Feeding: "It is, almost exclusively, a carnivorous species - tubifex, white worm, shredded earthworm and other meaty foods being accepted with great relish." Everything generally said frozen or live foods. ![]() Breeding: "It is quite a simple fish to breed, this being done in a manner similar to the cichlids. The male is distinguished by his slimmer appearance, and his more intense colouration. For best results both fish should be separated and conditioned for a period of 7-10 days on the foods mentioned above, the breeding tank being set up to include slightly acid to neutral water, pH 6.8. A flower pot with the bottom knocked out should be placed in one of the rear corners, in which the fish will probably spawn. After the usual preliminary courtship, which coincides with vigorous chasing by the male, the female will eventually be drawn into the flower pot to lay her eggs upon they will be fertilised by the male. Upon termination of spawning both parents should be removed, and a few drops of a 5 per cent. aqueous solution of methylene blue added to the water in order to assist the fight against bacterial growth. Hatching occurs within 72-8O hours, and after absorption of their yolk sacs the fry should be fed the normal foods - infusoria, brine shrimp, sifted daphnia, and finally small white worms or chopped tubifex." That was the most in depth thing I found ![]() I couldn't see anything on tank size, but as far as I can tell the fish itself reaches about 2 - 3 inches. hth ![]() [span class="edited"][Edited by ~ Sin ~ 2004-07-27 00:30][/span] |
