Tell me this isn't the most impressive common bristlenose pleco you've ever seen... I dare you.

We got him in this week at the store, and he about 7" long not including his fins. His face looks like it's covered in sea anenomes. I would definitely buy him if I had the room, but I just had to show everyone here.

He's HUGE!!! Impressive indeed. Is it the angle in the first pic or are the bristles on one side longer than the other??

Nope, the big ones are the ones in the middle. You can't see the ones on the right side of his head from that angle.

ISnt that particular form of BN called a Medusa Pleco because of the multi branching whiskers?
Hes gorgeous! (well as an ugly fish can be!)
Nice find. Lucky be the person who takes him home.

Golly! What species of Ancistrus is it, A. ranunculus? Those are the medusa plecs, I believe. What a find, my male BN can't hold a candle to that.

EDIT: You apparently freaked him out, removing him from the tank. His spines are extended big time, hopefully you didn't get stabbed!

Ah, that's a big bristlnose, but it's no Medusa...

There's quite an easy way to tell Medusa's from other BN's. They don't have spots. Also, their bristles do not branch.

If you're talking about bristlenose species in general, that's not the most impressive (*hugs Medusae*). But of the spotted, more common types of bristlenoses, I do have to admit I haven't seen anything like it.

Yep, I've seen other species that have more bristles than this, but this is just a common bristlenose pleco (Ancistrus sp. 3), which is supposed to max out about 5".

Very nice!!! Awesome guy! I have an Ancistrus Tamboensis that looks a bit like him, but of course not as big as yours would get!
