These guys are cool.

Just make sure you leave some algae or buy algae waffers for him. Or you could put a piece of zuccinni in the tank but don't leave it in the tank for too long or it will soften and make the tank really really messy. You can also try some pumpkin as well. Some people blanch the veggie so that it sinks, if you don't just put a rubber band round a rock heavy enough to weight it down and bob's your uncle it will sink.

The other day I actually hand fed my BN. He was hiding under his bogwood when I was feeding the tank. As I was sprinkling some frozen bloodworms around his log, he came out and jumped onto my fingers and stayed and ate the worms. He has done this a couple of times now. So cool.
A friend of mine yesterday gave me 19 baby BNs. I only wanted 3.:%) I tried putting them into one of my tanks, but the fishys in their thought they were lunch. So I had to fix up a tank all for these little guys.***Tiger

I agree with PJ in Canberra they are everywhere and generally fairly cheap if your in the Canberra region. Ive got a pair that breed like rabbits Ive had them for a year now and they breed so much I'm supplying a few stores in town as well as GIVING them away so stuquarium If your nearby the Canberra region and you would like another one or two let me know!!

P.S Have fun with the little guy they are really cute when they are that small and not too much of a high protien diet as its bad for their digestive system blanched peas work well as a treat, and a water temp of 27-8 seems to make very happy waters

Where abouts are you Stu?

I always see BN's here, in Canberra.
large BN's are quite a bit in price.
Thats why I got all of my BN's when they were small for about $5 each.

Well good luck with your BN.

They are interesting to watch grow. Glad that you are enjoying your BN. I am hoping to eventually have a breeding pair of my own. So everyone keep your fingers crossed.

I have a BN in my 55g. More often than not he hangs out on the driftwood all day and comes out during feedings, but I will occasionally see him on the glass and poking around on the bottom. It took him about a month and a half to settle in and show himself. Before that he'd hide under the wood all day and I'd never see him. Mine loves to eat algae of course, Hikari sinking wafers, and Wardley shrimp pellets. Just give yours time and he'll get used to his new home. They are quite amusing fish.

Actually, I've heard broc to be somewhat of a hit or miss with most aquarists. It tends not to be used as it decomposes under warm water at an alarming rate, and few fish will touch it. I suggest you let the little guy just feed on algae for a few weeks before attempting to supplement it's diet. It should be provided with collards, kale, spinach, and other highly nutritious greens as well as bloodworms, blackworms, and other sources of crude protein.

I have 3 BN's in my 115g.

1 is full grown, 1 is about 6cm and the other is only a little baby.

I notice that my two smaller BN's actually come out alot during the day, but my larger one is never out during the day. It's always sleeping under it's rock instead.
But i see it come out after the lights are off.

It depends on the fish & not all fish are the same. BN are a bit shy & may take some time to settle. They will hide on the Driftwood most of the time. BN prefer low light tanks & often roam around when the lights are off.

BN are lovely. I have 3 & they are always cleaning Algae. You must give him some time to settle & feed him sinking pellets, cucumber, zucchini & other vegetables. If possible get him a piece of Bogwood/Driftwood, as they like to munch on it & hide.

I would not worry too much between the bog wood and algee on your tank glass glass/plants 1 BN will do fine until he/she is about 3-4cm, then you will need to suplementry feed him/her with algee discs, but try distracting your silver dollars with their food first.

Or purchase some algee discs and drop one in a week for him the dollars will most likely leave the algee discs alone but silver dollars i have very little to do with

If you would like to know some brands od disc that I use let me know (I'm at work at present and dont have the brands on me) or if you like i can send you a pack through the post for free (i have a lot of BN's so i buy in bulk basicly) and you have me in a very charitable mood with your level of excitment over the little guy

OH and PJ I know how u feel I thought I was the only one in Canberra too lol*
