Hello,

I have a 10 gallon tank with 2 guppies and 8 neons. I was thinking that I probably want to put one small bottom feeder in with them.

Can anyone give me some suggestions as to what would be a good choice.

Thanks

Bottom feeders, such as Loaches & Corydoras need to stay in groups. So maybe you can add 4 Pygmy Corydoras, but you'll be pushing the limits.

Do you have any live plants? If not, the tank is pretty much fully stocked as it is. Is there a specific reason why a bottom feeder is "required"?

There are no live plants in the aquarium.

I thought the bottom feeder might help clean up the tank.

I am not sure if it is a good idea or not.

If it's left over food, try to feed less but if you still want something to clean, maybe an Apple Snail.

I've heard a lot of horror stories re: snails.

Do Apple Snails multiply like most other snails?

No Apple Snails don't mulitply & you need a male & female to make them breed.

Nope... Quite the opposite actually; bottom feeders tend to produce a lot of waste for their size because of their hearty appetites and (in the case of loaches and corys at least) their high metabolisms. No fish will "clean" a tank.

If there's leftover food on the bottom of the tank, just feed less.

A BN will do a great job with Algae, but it "poo's" alot & it's better not to have one in a 10 Gal. tank.

CAE are also very good Algae eaters, but the get quite big & don't fit in a 10 gal. tank & they can suck the slime coat from other fish when they get older.
