I've now got 12 Tiger Barbs in my 30g with one Rainbow shark, who is apparently a docile little thing, and am noticing that a bottom feeder is desperately needed.

What's the best type of bottom feeder to go with Barbs and can put up with the Rainbow Shark? I am planting the tank, so I may need to get an algae eater, but a cleanup crew is top priority.

I am pretty sure that the rainbow shark will get way too big for your tank...

A bristlenose pleco would do fine in your take. Some may say its overstocked with 12tigers and 1rtbs. But thats because the red tailed black shark can get big. However it usally only reaches for inches rarely reaching anymore than 5in. IMO, it would be ok to add a bristlenose, but you will have to keep up with your water changes gravel vaccumming etcetc.

Harley, I've got 7 tiger barbs and 4 julii corycats in a 20G. I find that the tigers love to bottom feed. After they get all the flakes from the surface, they swim the whole tank looking for more. In fact, I worry about the cories getting enough to eat. I sometimes do night time feedings to give them food while the tigers are sleeping. Maybe you are feeding too much?

I only give them a pinch of flakes every night. It looks like one cube of frozen bloodworms is too much for them.

The funny thing is, BN's are very common fish and I have yet to see one in my area. There's plenty of common plecos. Should I try a rubbernose pleco and bring back 2 of the Tiger Barbs?

If you want to keep with the Asian theme in your tank, I would substitute and corys for some small loaches.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

asonpisani, no the tigers do not even blink at the cories any more. for the first two months they would swim toward them, and sometimes chase them from food, but now they don't do anything towards them. I would never put tigers with other middle/top swimmers, but they are fine with my cories. I did make a real cave for the cories, with a nice open glass floor for their bellies to rest on. They spend lots of time in there, and lots of time in the open where the tigers could get them.
