Bottom feeders for 20 long | |
Two Tanks Big Fish Posts: 449 Kudos: 328 Votes: 13 Registered: 02-Jun-2003 | I am thinking of getting some sort of bottom feeder(s) for my twenty gallon long. I have six danios, six platies, and one powder blue gourami. I have six cories and two ottos, in my twenty nine gallon and love them, but don't know if cories would work in a twenty gallon long, and I don't want it to be overstocked. I have had rubbernose plecos in the past, but they proved to be very sickly - one even spread nasty little parasites (nematoes) to the other fish I had killing all but one (have since closed that tank out). Thanks for any suggestions. |

I wouldn't add ottos unless you have algae established in the tank. I love kuhli loaches but they seem to be difficult to find locally. Dwarf loaches (B. sidthimunki) would work, although they tend to be a bit pricey. With loaches it's best to keep them in a group of at least 3-4. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

I have never seen any bristle noses around here - but there are several LFS I have not been to in a while. The loaches sound really interesting, if I can find them. If not, I will just go with a smallish variety of cory. I don't have enough algae for ottos in this tank so I quess that is not an option right now. Next week might be a good time to go "fishing" with a friend who also likes fish. She needs to find homes for a whole bunch of guppie fry. |

The tank he / she (who can tell) came out of was sort of gross - should I quarintine him / her first? It's a neat little thing. The other kinds they had would have gotten too large for my tank. |

If you have some way to quarantine it I'd definitely do so. They're one of my favorite fish Forgot to add...you may find it a bit shy being on its own. Many people claim they're nocturnal but mine got quite active during the day after settling in the tank. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

It has no light, but from what I understand, they don't really like a lot of light anyway. I will set it up and let him / her have it for now. I hope PetsMart will get some more next week - would like little "whoever" to have some friends. Thank you for your help. |

I work nights and saw this guy at 3am on the heater. Thought he was dead, turned out to be a favorite sleeping spot ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |
