Is it feasable to keep a brown bullhead in a 125 gallon tank? I'm getting one (the tank, not the bullhead) for an early Christmas gift (late November) and I'm entertaining the possibility of making it a "pond" tank.

When I was a kid, my father was a big fisherman and sometimes let me keep some of his bait in a tank, which mainly consisted of tadpoles that I'd raise until they turned into frogs and I'd release them. Well, once he brought me a 1.5 inch brown bullhead that went into the goldfish tank. Well, after several years he was about 10-11 inches long and far too big for the tank, so my father convinced me to "release" him into the pond at a local park, which was probably a bad idea in retrospect.

Anyway, though, that fish still places as one of my all-time favorite fish, and I definitely wouldn't mind having another one. Maybe with a few comet goldfish? I assume the bullhead would eat anything much smaller than that.

Browns are one of the large ictaluriids. I would not put him in a 125g.

Brown bullheads reach around 20" and I suppose it's possible to keep one in a tank. I don't know if a 125 is large enough though.

Instead of goldfish which can get even bigger than the bullhead why not do a sunfish or bluegill species? They look great in tanks once they've grown and colored up. Do check what species you gather though as some get quite big and agressive while others are quite nice to keep in a tank. Try this site for native fish info [link=http://www.ichthyophilia.com/centrarchidae.html]http://www.ichthyophilia.com/centrarchidae.html" style="COLOR: #C000C0[/link] Unfortunately it doesn't list the potential size of every fish but it does on most of them along with how agressive they are.
