Nope. Sorry to be the first one to break the news...

Clown loaches are schooling fish, which means they should be in a group of 6 or more. They get to be of considerable size over time, around 8" or so, which means they will need about a tank of 125 gallons.

In theory, you *could* keep them in 55 for a little while...but unless you have a bigger home for them on the way, I wouldn't.

Are you interested in any other loaches? Weather? Kuhlii? YoYo?

I agree with the clown loaches, they get too large for 55 gallon tanks.

As for the queen loaches, you'd probably be okay with a small group of them. They do reach around six inches, but three of these loaches will fit in your tank. Be aware that they may outcompete your cories for food though, so you will have to treat the cories with extra care when serving them food.

Are zebra loaches better? will thaey be smaller?
Would a yoyo be better suited for my tank size matter and cory food matter?

I wouldnt advise putting clown loaches in that tank.

With the angles in there, they take up quite a big space.

Now, without the angles, you could perfectly fit some in there

Um, Vict, I believe that you should know, after keeping clowns for what, 15 years?...that a school of clowns shouldn't be kept in a 55 gallon tank...

And any loach you are going to get will give your corys some competition for food. As long as you feed sinking wafers and an assortment of other things, they should all be okay.

Nope, cant fit clowns in there long term. I'd also suggest increasing the ammount of ottos since they're also schooling fish. Corys would go much better (IMO) in that sized tank. Remember it's only 12" deep, I wouldnt put a fish that gets any bigger than 5" adult lenght in it.

If you are going by body mass, kuhli loaches are probably the smallest. Though they can grow to four inches, they are very skinny and don't produce a whole lot of waste. Kuhli loaches are quite interesting, and are marvelous to behold. They are also perfectly compatible with your current fish.

I dont like them. They sort of look like snakes. I want a loach that almost looks like a corie. A yoyo loach is cool. Would they go good? and if so how many?

yoyos are great, get atleast 3. they only grow to be like 4 inches and its just length, bairly any mass. they out grow the "yoyo" pattern on thier sides. some more then others though. 1 of 3 i can make it out very well but the other 2 look more like scribbles. they also hang with my dozen cories like they are one of the pack. and i often see them schooling together.

( Vic, you do what you like with your fish but please dont relay bad information to others who want to know the BEST they can do for thier fish. )

Botia sidthimunki is the smallest. It only gets about 1-2 inches long and is SO CUTE! They're just adorable, really.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

Clown Loaches don't fit, as they grow big, but 3 Yoyo's will be fine in your tank.

I'm with Janna - if you can find B. sidthimunki, the "Mouse Loach," get a group! They're the cutest little things in the world.
