Hello. I'm new & was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me what I've inherited in this established tank? The owner seems to think they're two 'Bala Sharks', but if so, they're unlike the photos I've seen. I've been unsucessful so far identifying them myself. Any ideas are much appreciated!

They Don't look like Irridescent sharks to me. In fact I'm almost 99% positive they aren't irridescents. Here's a pic. Notice the fin that runs along the belly. It's not the same

I'm 100% sure they are not bala sharks. Here's a picture of them.

http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/gbala.html I don't really know what they are but I suppose I narrowed the field if that helps.

They're definitely not Bala sharks. My guess would be a Mystus species, maybe?

Woah, awesome, you've got some nice specimens of what I believe to be Schilbe grenfelli or a related species. Not to be trusted with small fish!:%)

Thank you so much for the replies! Wow, the photos of Schilbe grenfelli that I see look just like them. I'm very relieved to finally know what they are. Now I need to work on getting a bigger tank just for them. Can you belive they were in a 29 gal. with a Rainbow shark and two plecos (one of which is a 10 year old, about 9 in. long)?!? Thank you again very much!

i believe it to be a pangasius catfish (Pangasius pangasius) Not sure if this is its scientific name know as i got it from one of my oldish books!

Here is a website they only have a picture of a juvenile catfish though
http://www.cichlidfish.com/articles/article_3665.shtml

Or it will be a member of the mystus(Not sure one the spelling) family but i'd have to look at that in more detail as i have only seen a couple of these.

it does look like an ID shark, but the bottom part only starts neat the end, it doesnt go up halfway up the shark.
