Just a quick question... Do plecos generally like carrot to eat? I put a piece in my tank about 15 minutes ago for my plecos, and none of them have noticed it. But then again, plecos are some of the least intelligent fish out there, so I presume it would take a while for them to discover it.

A couple of mine have enjoyed it and a couple have not, it's just a matter of aquiring the taste and getting them to try it....

Have you softened it up some in the microwave or stove? Sometimes I think it helps them to find it, but of course then it has to be cooled:%)

Silly plecos they will find it and then it will be gone

Nope, didn't do anything besides rinse it off a bit. My blue phantom has gotten within inches of it, but I guess he didn't smell it or something and he hasn't gone after it.

Natalie, just use a cumcumber or a zucchini, the plecos always seem to enjoy those.

My BNs will eat the carrots I have offered. I never see them eating it, but the chew marks are there. I will leave in there a while to get to soften up.

Be patient they will find it, I know I just dropped a piece of squash in a friend's daughter's tank for her goldies, and I know it will take them time to find it but they will

Carrot doesn't really do much for the loricariid palette, anyways. Stick with kale and other dark greens.

I have one BN that will literally eat anything.

I'd give it a few tries and if they still don't seem interested don't bother again.

My best luck has been with cucumber, broccoli and zucchini.

Broccoli didnt go well for me. It just went everywhere and clouded the tank. Very bad experience with it.

Well, I didn't really see any of them eat it, so I took it out.

mangor34 did you cook the broccoli? I buy frozen or fresh, wash it, attach to a rock and put it in the tank. I've never had problems with it.

Broccoli is not often eaten by fish: you are quite fortunate to have fish that enjoy it. Most experiences with the vegetable that I know of (both mine and others) have ended in a mess similar to the one mango described. The stalk is usually consumed, but the tops are left and rot.
