Catfish Convention 2006 | |
sirbooks Moderator Sociopath Posts: 3875 Kudos: 5164 Votes: 932 Registered: 26-Jul-2004 | This October the Potomac Valley Aquarium Society will be following up on its previous success with another Catfish Convention. It will be held in Laurel, Maryland, not too far out of Washington D.C. The convention features an auction, general aquarium sales, and quite a few noted speakers. It looks like a good event, I'm going to try hard to make it up there. Website at http://www.catfish2006.com/ (I sound like a shill, but I'm just making up for missing the earlier one) |

There were a lot of species for sale I've never seen in person before, and there were some nice fish in the show. Got to see a bunch of people whose names I'm familiar with, even Dr. Weitzman. Talked for a while with Barbie from PlanetCatfish, who was selling fish from frybabies.com. They had twelve dollar Corydoras weitzmani, but they'd all been sold before I arrived. I missed a couple of talks I'd wanted to see, but had a good time anyways. The sucky thing was that I didn't know anyone personally, so I felt like an outsider. Almost all the other attendees were middle-aged or older. I only saw one other teenager and two little kids. Nice convention overall though. |

I overheard someone ask about it, and the answer was that the convention will be every two years. They didn't have one last year, so it fits. Hopefully by 2008 I'll have more contacts so I can pretend to be important. I swear I've seen Jon Armbruster before. |

I'm not particular about colors.............. but if I hear any talk about the mother ship............ I'm outta here! |

I wear wide red exclusively, cannot ennunciate my "l's", eat rice all day, and have buck teeth. P.S. I didn't mean to strike any offense at any readers of any race, just for the record. |

I can't decide if you're just kidding about the rest?? Doesn't matter. Na............... I don't think anyone took any offense. We all talked like that at your age ourselves. And some still do. In fact there's truth to what you say. A lot of people at certain ages tend to look like a so called typical stereotype. I guess I shouldnt have said anything. I've never belonged to a forum so didn't really think about the people here. I just lump summed? you all more or less into young or middle aged white people............paying little attention to the flags. I learned there were older people............. now teenagers............and now different races. In reality, I knew this was an international site........ it just hadn't really sunk in though. I'm sure there's a little bit of everything, in every way, here. Every age, race, rich, poor, bright, not so bright, educated, not educated, different cultures, good looking, not so good looking, very polite, rude, etc., etc,. I'm pretty sure most people here are open to all that. In fact, if you think about it............ we are much like our fishies! Sorry to interupt the flow you & Sirbooks had going........... I'll stay out of it now. Oh..........by the way............. nice to meet you noodles! |

Clownygirl is from India for example, and lives not that far away from the natural habitats of some of our favourite fishes ... Then there's Jasonpisani from Malta, and I think we have a guy from Lebanon in here too ... quite a mixture. Hopefully one day, with all of these people popping in to places like this and sharing fish talk, there'll be enough of us to realise that our BIG problems centre upon the stupidity and wilful ego preeing of politicians, and we'll all get together and replace the idiots in charge ... preferably with some fellow fishkeepers |

Strangely enough, the above analogy is a very good representation of wht the forum experience is all about. |
