Clown Loach Headache | |
psimon23 Small Fry Posts: 2 Votes: 1 Registered: 03-Feb-2007 | We are currently having a huge problem with snails, a few people locally have recommended getting a clown loach . Having read a few articles online nothing is getting clearer at all. Some say that my tank is too small (120 litres) my local aquatic shop say that one would be fine for it. however everything written relating to them suggests that they will tend to sulk or become uncomfortable if they are not in a pair or better stiil at least three, which where the next problem comes in we have a malawi catfish. As both of these like living at or near the bottom of the tank would this cause a problem? any suggestions? |

However they do grow to be quite large, albeit very slowly. 125gal per full grown trio seems to be the normal minimum. If you get babies, remember that they cannot live in 30 gallons forever. You might want to try looking for Botia sidthimunki, which is generally much more effective at controlling snail populations. They are a bit rare and more expensive than most other loaches, but they are worth it. Additonally, they stay small and can live in a 120 liter tank their entire lives. Like most loaches, they do best in groups of three or more. I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |

These fish are much much smaller, maxing out at about 3 inches in size. They are super attractive, not as active as some loaches, and are phenomenal snail eaters. They will even try to eat full grown apple snails. You could easily fit a trio in your tank for life. All loaches should be in a group of 3 or more. They should be fine with the catfish, just ensure the cat and the loaches each have a seperate cave to hang out in. Check the profiles on here for a pic of my Botia Kubotai.
