Hi Everyone.
I am looking for advice on what is best to do about the one CL that I have in my 55 gallon aquarium.
A couple of years ago, when I was just starting with my first aquarium, I was sold two CL's by a guy at Petco. He recommended them, even knowing that I was running a 20 gallon. When I learned the needs of these fish, I upgraded to a 55 gallon tank, which was as large as I could go at the time. I've had this tank running for almost one year now.
Last week I lost one of my CL's to disease. I'm still not positive as to what happened, but all of my other fish (1 CL, 3 Columbian Tetras, 4 Ottos) are doing very well.
I had been putting off stocking this aquarium, but see that I need to make some decisions now, primarily with my CL. I know that my aquarium is not suited for a CL, and I know that I should have at least 4-6 to keep them happy and healthy. I love keeping the CL's, but need some advice from more experienced folks.
I could upgrade to a larger aquarium, but likely it would not happen until the summer. Could I get by with stocking 2-3 CL's in my current aquarium until then, or is it best to pursue finding a new home for my CL?

Any suggestions or advice? Thanks!

Once your 55G tank is healthy and free of medication, you can add 3 - 4 CL with your existing one. As you plan to upgrade to 125G in the summer, this will be their ideal home. Don't worry, they grow very slowly. You'll have time.

When you shop for your new CL, try to avoid small ones that are less than 2 inches. They are usually weaker and difficult to acclimate. Give them a lot of hiding places in form of drift wood, caves. Keep their water warm (78 - 82F). They are very sensitive to temp change and can develop ich easily. Water quality is also very important, so a weekly water change of 25% is a minimum.

One last thing to consider before shopping for more CL. They are not the best fish to keep if you plan to have a tank with delicated plants!
