I found these iteresting pictures of a clown loach showing the spines near their eyes. You have to scroll down to about halfway down the page to see them. Something interesing i found, just thought i would share.

That is cool. I didnt know that. Do any other loaches have this?

i knew they had the knife things but i didn't know they could come out like that. that would hurt.

I think other loaches have it. I know for sure that Kuhli loaches do. You may see Kuhlies on sale sometimes as thorneyes. It probably would hurt. You may even get an infection from the slime.

nice article, i did see my clown loach extend his spines once. just a cauition to other fishes not to mess with me.

Im pretty sure all loaches have it. I got nailed by a yoyo loache once.

I can confirm that all fish in the genus Botia (yoyo, angelicus, clown, queen, zebra, loaches etc.) have the eye spines, and I’m pretty sure that loaches in the genus Pangio (all kuhli species) have it too. I can’t speak for weather/dojo loaches though, they’re scattered throughout different genera. Does anyone have any info on these guys?

You learn something new everyday I guess my little guys, yeah right, pigglets must be comfortable, I haven't seen them yet And I will say, they are great at snail cleanupI have 4 in my 125 and they will stay together then seperate...but I have 2 that never go solo, they even sleep togetherI did get to witness one of them go after a snail this morningHe was literally hunting this guy downThen bang LUNCH!!! hmmmm yoyos, zippers, zebras, skunks, blues, and clowns have them from my personal experience. Part of why you can't use most nets with them. You need to use the super-fine meshed ones. I once had to use scissors with a struggling skunk loach. Just a bad experience for both of us.

Empty chairs at empty tables, the room silent, forlorn.

The Orange Fin Loach I used to have got me one day. I went to pick him up after he jumped out of the bucket I had him in and bamb he got me. Hurt a little. Expecualy being I had no idea they were coming. Their scales are much like that of a small trout (very smoth so i though i would just hand pick him up, bad idea!)

Most loaches, including not just the Botia loaches, have those spines. This is a picture I took of my orange-finned loach a couple years ago.

you should see the spines on my dads clown loach that is almost 9".

I swear, he would put a scratch in the glass with those things!
