I have A Clown Pleco and I am wondering what the best food for him would be. I didn't realize this kind doesn't eat algae. I just assumed all plecos did and the fish store didn't tell me anything different..but after doing some more research I realized this.. and also I guess they love Driftwood. So I am off to the store tonight to get some..I had gotten some wafers for him but I don't think he is eating them..there are live plants in the tank..

thanks

You could def. put in some driftwood, and I'd try feeding him some sinking wafers, not algae ones. Try a couple types of sinking pellets and see what he goes for. You could try feeding veggies, but I'm not sure he'd go for it...lots of plecos love cucumbers, zucchini and lettuce. HTH

you MUST have driftwood if you keep clown plecos. this is their main diet. after that you can feed them zuchini, squash, spirulina wafers and sometimes they'll eat algae wafers and leftover food.

My clown pleco does eat algae - you can see him clean the glass sometimes and he does eat any algae that appears on my driftwood...he loves his driftwood. :-)

Maybe they're not the most active algae eaters, but I wouldn't say they don't eat any algae - at least from the two I've had (had one several years ago, have one now).

they will eat some algae, but not all of them do, and not enough of them do to say that they will not eat anything else. their main diet is driftwood, but they will eat most of what any other pleco eats (except algae )

Should you feed them with fibrous veggies one every other day, clowns should be fine without DW.
