Lately, I've been wondering when cories are the most active. I was always under the impression that they were nocturnal, but a couple of the people I've talked to insisted that they came out mostly during the day. So, who's right? I've seen people say that they should be fed at night, so that other fishes wouldn't steal their food. I thought that would mean they are nocturnal... Thank you for straightening me out.

Mine are usually sitting around out in the open, but start going crazy once they find food. I imagine they do the same thing at night.

If you notice, they don't really have any special adaptions that would render them nocturnal creatures. They don't have large eyes or large whiskers, so I don't think that they are truly nocturnal.

I think they are just opportunists - They just become active when there's food, whether it's day or night.

Also what I've noticed is that when people are complaining that their corys hide too much, it's usually because they do not have enough cover provided. They think that taking away hiding places will make the fish come out more, but in fact it has the exact opposite effect. My corys have tons of plants and driftwood in their tank, but they only hide in there if something scares them. Otherwise, they are always sitting right in the front of the tank in plain view, which is really brightly lit.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

My cories seem to be hyper active all the time. I feed them sinking wafers at night, and they seem to have just as much energy then as they do during the day. *shrug*

After placing my cories in my new 55g where the cover is all over the place, and there are nooks, crannies, sumberged logs, hidey holes and strong powerhead current, they love it.

Silly little buggers!
