What happened to my cory? It looks like he was bitten, but I'm not sure. This happened a couple days ago, I think. Yesterday and the day before he was swimming a lot, usually in the middle strata of the tank, which was a bit odd. Today I came down to find him in the corner of the tank, on his side, breathing heavily. Here's a pic:

It looks like a localized bacterial infection. The scales do not appear to be damaged like they would be if it was a bite. The blood spots also point more towards some sort of infection.

Do you notice redness anywhere else? I can't really tell from the pictures, but it looks like he might have some reddish discoloration around his gills and caudal fin.

do you have anything he could have scraped against? it looks more like a cut than a bite, but it's hard to tell from the pic. CA could be correct as well, it depends on what else might be on the fish that the pic doesn't show.

You might want to post this in the Hospital Forum. I had a cory that had sustained an injury in the tank I think he bumped his nose on one of the ornaments and developed a fuzzy patch on his nose. I moved him to a hospital tank and started treating him with Maracyn at the suggestion of some of the folks in that forum. He died about 5 days later and at that time had the same redness around his gills and in a couple of places on his body (looked like it was under the skin). Hope your little guy gets better.

It's too late. The little guy passed on.

It really looked like a bite, or scrape, or something. The skin was damaged. It appeared suddenly. He was breathing heavily when I found him on his side, but it got a bit better when I put him closer to the surface of the water.

Keep an eye on the rest of your cories though, as bacterial infections can often take out an entire school of cories. Sorry you lost the little fella

It's a C. trilineatus.
