I've looked this up, and I've read a couple of different things, so I wanted to get y'alls opinion. I was wondering if different species of Corydoras would school together...for example, a julii, a green, and an albino. I was especially thinking maybe the aeneus would school even if they were different color variations, like green and albino. What do you think? Any experiences with this?

andrew14,

Hi - and welcome to FP

Good job on the reading there, yes cories of various kinds like to school with each other, as long as they are using the same water level (some are more in the middle) and maybe even (don't know for fact) of similar size (mini vs. large species).

But here is my personal opinion before you go out and buy one of each.

If you are put on an island with a bunch of people you don't like then I would assume you would hang with them simply because it offers protection against the wild animals etc and makes you feel more secure. Now, if instead of strangers these other people where your friends then you would hang with them because you would have a ball. Moral - IMHO it is better to have the cories school with their own kind.

Yes. They can and often do shoal together, but are better off when kept in large groups of their own kind. Corydoras live in shoals (sometimes with thousands of fish) in the wild, and tend to stick with their own species or at least very similar ones. If you plan to buy some cory cats, it would be ideal to get a decently-sized group of one species.
