They are adorable. Now that I know that I have a job for next school year, I will be looking for a larger tank, and hope to be able to add some of the larger cories to it.

OK dumb question but I have to askI have a friend who visits Germany, well her family at least once a year...what would be the odds or how hard would it be to have her bring some corries home with her on her next trip? Is it even possible? I know they would have to be declared, and bagged special for the trip (14 hr flight I think?) Is it even possible, or am I just dreaming? I'd have to tell her husband what i was looking for, she's not into the fish, but he was at one timeheidi

Wow, lots of questions. Lemme take care of those in order:

My stocking consists of seven lemon tetras, seven Nannostomus unifasciatus pencilfish, a Bolivian ram, a bristlenose pleco, one Corydoras guapore, one C. delphax (both were rescues), five C. septentrionalis, six C. arcuatus, and eight C. elegans. It's a lot of fish, but most aren't big waste producers and I do keep my tank nice and clean.

The arcuatus were $3.99 apiece, but I paid $9.99 each for two trios. That comes out to $20 U.S., or $26.50 Australian. Not a bad deal.

The tank is thirty inches (seventy-six cm) long, and should be the permanent home for these fish. If I do get another tank and use it for a breeding project, I'll probably try either the arcuatus or the elegans.

Corydoras arcuatus fish usually grow to five centimeters, though I think they can exceed that a little. About medium-sized as far as cories go, and very neat fish.

Jason, if you decide to order fish from Germany you'll have a lot to choose from. Definitely take your time and research, since Corydoras catfish are pretty popular over there. They get species that haven't yet come to North America, and probably have a way bigger selection than we do in the 'States. Good luck with your hunting.

Those are a real beauty. Well done.

We don't have much choise here in Malta, but maybe next September, i'll order some from Germany. I don't know which, but i'll do a research first & choose some rare ones.

Out of curiosity, does anybody here know much about these fellas? They arrived in the big store I was working at, and I must say that they're pretty neat fish. Unfortunately, my books don't have much data on them. I've got mixed information on size, and I don't know how tough they are relative to other Corydoras. Also, does anyone know if this species can be sexed by coloration? At the store, some of them have nice pink spots back behind the gill covers, while others don't. I think these are males, but I really can't be sure. I'm either going to grab some of these, or a big group of C. arcuatus (Which also came in very recently- I was thrilled!) Any help?

I went and bought six C. arcuatus, and I am very happy with them. They're more active than even the elegans, and stay near the front of the tank most of the time. I looked for C. narcissus contaminants in the arcuatus shipment, but didn't find any.

So, some pics:

Think I have enough Corydoras? There are twenty or twenty-one in my tank now.

Get the arcs since you have been looking for them for a while. I would get some if they were available and I had a larger tank. Unfortunately, you can't get every species of fish that you might like.

Wish I could get both, but I don't have the space. Money isn't an issue- Though the ehrhardti cost more than the skunks, they really aren't that expensive at all. I do like both fish, but the arcs are cooler and I've been waiting on them for a while. I think I'll probably get them.

It's better to get some, as you might not see them again for some time at the store. If you have the space & money........ get some.

The size doesn't matter too much, I was just curious. As I said, I'm getting different figures. My Aqualog book says two inches and PlanetCatfish says three; I figure two inches is accurate.
My dilemma is that while the ehrhardti are semi-rare (which is what attracted me to them in the first place) and are similar enough to my septentrionalis so that they might hang together, the arcuatus are cooler-looking and seem to be more active. I've been looking for skunk cories for quite a while, as there aren't any others in the area. In fact, the Fish Dept. manager told me that this was the first time in two years she'd seen them on her list to order.
I'm still torn between the two fish.

Does it really matter how large they grow? You're only going to be mingling around the 2" range by, at most, an inch. They are also a ways rarer than skunk cories, so I'd take them. The Arcuatus would, however, be more distinct from your other aquarium inhabitants.
