Corydoras hybrid. | |
jasonpisani *Ultimate Fish Guru* Posts: 5553 Kudos: 7215 Votes: 1024 Registered: 24-Feb-2003 | Can someone give me some information on any Hybrid Corydoras?. I had a batch of C.aeneus albino & today after a few weeks old, i found one that doesn't look albino. In the tank, together with the C.aeneus albino, i have these types of corydoras, C.schwartzii,.C. trillineatus, C.julii, C.arcuatus & C.me http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

If they were hybrids, none of them would appear to be albino because the wild-type is the dominant trait (both parents need to be albino or het for albino in order to produce any albino offspring). There is a small chance that one of the other species you have is carrying an albino allele, but this is unlikely as the odds are overwhelmingly large that more than one individual would exhibit wild-type coloration. Colour variencies can be from true albino, to patches and black eyes (piebald) all the way through to fish with absent colour or partial fades and purple and pinkish hues, (leucistisism) and every degree inbetween. What your seeing is just variability in colour genes, not necessarily a different species. Colour genes are not fixed in any albino fish, even cave fish, every so often certain combinations of genes will throw up a specimen with some colour genes even if its just your basic black, or just in a patch. If you suspect a different species, look for different proportions ,scalation, finnage differences and morphological differences. |

Aeneus Albino are just the albino color form of the bronze cory, my guess is the same as longhair's, the fish is piebald, a halfway point between regular bronze coloration and albino. It likely received 1 albino gene and 1 color gene from the parents, resulting in a piebald fish. Sounds neat though! It looks like you may indeed have a piebald fish, Jason. This is extremely interesting, because it would mean that the fish has some sort of codominant alleles instead of the normal dominant-recessive types. I'm very curious to see what this fish looks like as it grows... It's possible you may introduce an entirely new morph to the hobby. I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |

Really sad to say, but it got stuck in the filter...... & from all those fry, it was that one that got stuck. http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

Perhaps what caused its unusual coloration also caused some sort of physical disability. As a side note, though, it's always best to use sponge filters in fry tanks to prevent these sorts of accidents. I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |

It wasn't that small, as they are 3 months old. I use sponge filter for the first 6-8 weeks & then box filters. In this tank, i had an internal filter & it got stuck from where the electrical wire comes out. http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |
