I just bought 6 panda cories from a LPS that didn't instill a lot of confidence in me. But they were the only ones who had panda's, so I got them anyway.

I got them on 10/1, and on 10/4, I noticed one had died. I brought him back on 10/5, and the LPS was getting a new shipment of panda's in, so I replaced the dead one with a new one.

This new one looks like a panda, but also has little brown spots in the 'white' areas and on his tailfin. Is it a crossbreed with something? He looks like he is really dirty. I like him, it makes him distinct, but was just wondering if that is a varity of panda, or a cross breed.

Like I said, I like him, but it still doesn't give me much confidence in the pet store if they don't even have true breeds of the fish.

Thanks

Got a photo so we can all examine the little guy?

Be advised, Pandas do vary somewhat. Apparently there exist population variants on the 'standard' Panda Cory, but these are usually only to be found in the collections of specialist catfish keepers. If you've got one of those, then you've actually got a bargain, because variant Pandas are normally more expensive than the 'standard' Pandas!

Well, that would be a good thing. I don't have a pic yet, as it was his first night in the tank last nite, but I will try to. But, then I am not a premie yet, so not sure how I can post a pic. But he is really cute does that help? lol

Sounds like it could be a C. oiapoquensis. Check out this link http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/callicht/corydora/123_2.php

I have a few of these little fellas myself.

Hmmm...no not quite. His tail is more like this.. I think
C. araguaiaensis

Edit: Put the Actual Link Below.

But his body is Panda, except for more tiny spots covering the white parts.

And all of their 'white' parts are more pinky-orange than they are white.

I dunno, I am not an expert at all on fish, let alone the 100+ different types of cories..:%)

But I will try to get a pic tonite, if he will hold still.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Another thought - look up Corydoras amandajanea - a recent import and another sky-high desirable Cory on the market ... if you have any amandajanea in your collection, they're worth a small fortune!
