Whether or not it is capable of generating an electrical current of physiological significance, we're trying to figure out what you could stock with it, right? You said it could get over a meter. If I was stocking with it, I'd go for things that are smaller and either rapid self replacing breeders or things that aren't worth eating. And cheap- just to check his temperment out. Otherwise it would be big peaceful dopy things. Silver sharks might be a bit fast/flighty or too tempting as food. Pacu might be too big? I'm not sure though. never kept a fish bigger than my hand. Otherwise you could try to see what it's wild neibours are. <Vet in Training> Blog under development: http://www.nearlydrferox.blogging4life.com/ |

No reliable sources state that these catfish can generate electricity. There are certain old found legends regarding the Japanese subspecies of this fish to have been endowed with mystical powers such as creating earthquakes and summon lightning from the skies. I shouldn't have to tell you that these are probably untrue. This, however, could possibly be what spawned such rumors of the capacity of this fish to generate electricity. |
