Hi,

I am thinking about getting an elephantnose to add into a 70 gallon tank with a spiny cichlid, salvini cichlid and zebra loach.

I have read some material that they shouldn't be kept as singles however, the species profile on this site indicates otherwise.

Can anyone offer any insight?

i think that elephantnose are best in a tank by themselves. i would always get 3. that should bring the tank to it's max cap.

They should be kept on own people say as in smaller tanks there electric sense can be confusing to each other but in larger tank they are fine together

By themselves? Mormies are notorious for interspecific rudeness. They are best left one per tank, or as perky said, housed together in a large tank (as in, in excess of 100 gallons, and even then, at most, a pair).

Salvinis are aggressive and it would not be a good idea to add an elephant nose in with a salvini because they need peaceful tankmates.

yeah, that is also a very good point!

Elephantnoses are peaceful and the cichlids are a big no no unless it was a species more along lines of Keyholes, nothing more aggresive than them.
