I have three emerald cat in a 10gal (I will move them to a 50gal I am gatting soon, and will give them some more buddies^^). I've had them for about two months, and they grew quickly when I first got them. But now, they've seemed to have stopped growing, and the largest is only about 1 1/2 inches. I feed them algea wafers, and they always seem well fed (fat bellies!!) Is this normal? They are very active and social, and I can't tell anything wrong with them. Thanks

I have not noticed any significant growth in my Brochis sp. "black", but from both personal experience and popular aquarim literature, they are supposed to reach around 3" in length, at least your average splendens. Multiradius can reach past 3.5".

The largest one I've ever seen was just shy of three inches, and that squares with what my books say about 'em. Yours may have gone into a growth spurt after you got them and just recently stopped growing so fast. They do grow faster when they're young, so it may have just been that. Dunno how large the fish were when you bought them.

I think they can reach 2.5 inches & yes, they grow faster when at a younger age.

Yeah, I got them from walmart (I was just looking around, then realized that the small catfish they had in the tank were emerald cats! I had to get them since I'd never seen them anywhere else, and I knew how beautiful they got!). Once they entered my tank, they immediately glowed bright green (makes you wonder what kind of conditions the walmart tanks are, even though they're clear!!) and grew REALLY fast. I got them at about 1 inch, and two were smaller than that. (Actually, now that I look at my ruler, I think that the largest may be two inches. It's hard to judge from the pictures in fish books. They look so much bigger!) Thanks for the imput, and they are very healthy and active, so they will probably just grow slower now that they are older! Thanks!!

I can't really comment on the WalMart tanks (), but the Brochis will thrive in a fairly clean environment. They do indeed get beautiful, and grow robust as they age. Brochis catfish are pretty cool, especially with the large sail-like dorsal fins.

OK can someone post a picture of the Emerald Green Corries? I know my wal-mart (closest to me) has some "assorted corries" but I was thinking the green ones were Green Aneouse (sp?)...Yes, Nick I could or should be able to easily just pull up my aqua corry book, but I've misplaced it (I really need to clean house, and put things where they belong, the school stuff just sitting in the corner of the living room is making it so much easier to just leave other things out of place) And if they do get really green, green and not too huge, well you can figure it out

Just count the dorsal fin spines. Brochis have anywhere from 13 to 18+, I believe.

I posted almost this same e-mail about a year ago, I had bought emerald corys at 3 different fish stores to make a school, and they stopped growing around 1.5 inches. They were quite green. After researching, it turned out I had Bronze Corys, they were mislabled at all 3 stores! But still very green.

Just a thought, but maybe this is what you have too?
