Hi,
We recently got a feather fin catfish to add to our tank. It is a 50 gallon with only one full size oscar. They get along quite well. My question is his stomach seems pretty big. Could this be from over-eating? I got him the sinking pelets, how many should he get? Oh yea he is about 6-7 inches long.

I don't like to admit it, but I don't even feed my featherfin syno---he just gets the scraps left over from my other fish, along with an occasional bloodworm treat. If you believe overfeeding is to blame, I'd cut off the food supply for about a day, and If his gut shrinks back to normal, I'd bet money that hes getting too much to eat.The simple solution is to just cut back on the amoun of food you put into the tank---or don't do anything about it. After all, overfeeding, unless taken to extremes should not harm the fish. Just make sure your nitrates are stable.

Featherfins do get pretty large stomachs and they will eat abnd eat til they are fatter. I would feed him a bit less often, say once every 3 days and see how it goes. Also during the time you don`t feed him it will be eating any leftovers from the Oscar (which will be quite a bit as they are very messy and leave quite a bit of food) so it won`t eat too little if your worried bout that
