A friend of mine has a couple of featherfins that have outgrown his tank. Luckily, he has a well full of fish and wants to know if the featherfins will thrive there, or he is going to have to give them away. Here is his exact question:

"My Featherfins have outgrown my tank several folds, and hence want them out immediately before they start causing harm/damage to the other inhabitants. Was wonder if FF do well in Well. I already have a pair Tiger sharks (iridescent sharks), a pleco and several guppies and gambusia doing very well there."

He lives in India, in Bangalore in the south. The temperature varies between 20 to 32 degrees, winter to summer to rain. When temps touch 32 degrees, it rains in the city irrespective of the season, and the water should be soft and suits Indian cyprinids and lake fish.

Please advise...

Do you mean a well for underground water?? Some of those have natural fauna and and no invasive species should be introduced.

Yes, I mean a well of underground water. This is a well in my friend's backyard that was earlier used to draw drinking water, but is not in use any more.

Please do not introduce any fish or other animals into the well. If there are endemic species, the new animals could creat havoc in the environment.

The only thing you should add new animals to are to personal, contained spaces.

I will make tat suggestion to my friend, but he already has fish in the well

Besides, I dont think that this will stop him from introducing the feather fins. What he already has in there are tiger sharks tat are Indian lake cyprinids, I am not sure about the history of feather fins, so was wondering if they are Indian fish at all???

Anyway, let me pass this information along and see what comes out of it. Thanks for replying

Featherfin Catfish are from Africa, so that's a pretty good distant from their natural waters.
