I bought a fire eel the other day and I am wondering how to feed him. He is too small to have live fish at the moment. So how can i feed him? all my frozen food floats and he is too scared to be hand fed at the moment.

Thanks in Advance,

David.

You could also try freshwater mussels chopped up into bite size pieces and also earthworms.

My fire eel loves his mussels and worms

It was hard to wean my peacocks onto prepared food. All of the above are good options, but if he just won't accept it, try either buying livebearer fry or pierce just a tiny bit of the desired food with a piece of fishing string and dangle it in front of his face---he should jump right on it.

I don't mean to steal your thread here but can you keep a spiny eel/fire eel with a Black Ghost Knife?

Chopped earthworms are all my spiny eels' faves.

Yes, you can keep a spiny eel with a BGK, but I wuld stick to one of the smaller spinys, like a tyretrack or peacock.

as mentioned above, spiny eels should be o.k with BGK. i hope you have a decent size tank thjo, as both species get a good size

(I thought tyre trach eels were quite large?)

Well, smaller than a fire eel, and not so small as a barred spiny, which the BKG would eventually eat.

The largest one caught measured in at 37", but keep in mind that's wild caught. The largest aquarium raised eels probably only reach the stated 2 feet.
