rohape Small Fry Posts: 3 Kudos: 1 Votes: 0 Registered: 15-Jan-2008 | I have no idea what type of fish this is. I listed under bottom feeder because he's always on the bottom. I thought maybe some type of goby? I have no idea what he eats, we never see him eat. He is so calm, never bothers any of my fish, snails, or shrimp. We got him in a bag of ghost shrimp about a year ago. He was pretty small then. He seems to be doing fine. Any help would be great, just want to make sure we're taking care of him properly. http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c104/rohape/2196149806_16e1274d09_o.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c104/rohape/2196146832_924ac00d2d_o.jpg |

They are awesome little fish, but they can be a bit sensitive to water quality issues. They're not too picky when it comes to food and usually adjust to flakes just fine, though their favorite foods are small live/frozen items like brine shrimp, tubifex worms, bloodworms, etc. I've also seen them pick at algae. They are a shoaling fish, so if you see them at your LFS again (which may or may not happen, they are not very common unfortunately), you might want to pick up a couple more. EDIT: Just saw that part about you getting him in with ghost shrimp... It's a real Darter, Etheostoma or Percina sp. (I can't tell which right now). Diet is still as above - they usually adapt to processed foods but prefer live/frozen ones. These guys aren't shoaling fish, though... They actually tend to be pretty territoral among themselves. I'll see if I can figure out what species it is. I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |

Etheostoma fusiforme swamp darter http://myfwc.com/fishing/images/fish-pic/eth-fus.jpg This is the closest I found that looks most like ours. Thank you for the lead Natalie! |

You might try going to the NANFA Forums (http://forum.nanfa.org/) and see if you can get someone over there to identify it for you. I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |
