Hello! I have a 10 gallon tank. I would like to get an algae-eating fish to the tank, but I'm not sure which would be best. I heard that Flying Foxes do not get nearly as large as most common Plecos, so I thought this might be a better choice for my tank. But is the Flying Fox as effective at cleaning?

You can't get a common pleco in that tank. A common pleco gets to big . I would get 3 flying foxs if you have room. What fish do you in that tank.

I have 4 Tiger Barbs. I'm pretty sure I would just need 1 Flying Fox. Why would you suggest 3?

Flying Foxes are actually, like their cousins the rainbow and red tail sharks, aggressive to conspecifics.
They also dont actually eat algae, if thats what you want it for.
They eat microscopic life forms, insects, and meatier foods.
Also, a flying fox grows to 6 inches, or about the same size as a red tail black shark. It is too large for a 10g tank.
You would be much better off to choose an algae eater suited to that tank size, such as a Bristlenose pleco, or a rubbernose pleco, or a couple of ottos.

Flying foxes don't eat algae. You must be thinking of the Siamese Algae Eater. However, the SAE gets at least 6 inches long and is an active schooler. They are much too big for a 10 gallon. A common pleco gets well over a foot long, so that wouldn't work either. I would suggest a group of otos. They are small. You could also get snails or shrimp to help.

As a side note, those tiger barbs will get about 3 inches long and like to be in groups larger than the one you have. They would definitely appreciate a larger tank as well. I would fear for the safety of anything else you might add to the tank, as the barbs can get aggressive in small groups.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

flying foxes from what i was told will grow large and both are not good in 10 gallons. ottos are a good small algae eatting fishes, but some livebearers will eat that too.

Flying Fox & Common Pleco, both get too big for a 10 gal. tank, that have already 4 Barbs.

Otto's eat Algae & are much more smaller.
