wow i was at a lfs and i never ever thought i would see one of these alivew anyway. it was under 7.49 and was about 3 inches. good deal?

It is, if you want something else that's capable of inflicting severe pain. They don't seem to be very common in stores, so that sounds like a good price to me.

Got a scientific name for this 'fossil catfish'?

Only when someone mentions the words 'fossil catfish' to me, I think of this fellow ... Corydoras revelatus, which lived 65 million years ago.

Yes, that's right, a REAL fossil catfish, and a fossil Cory to boot!

It is Heteropneustes fossilis. The species is definitely still around and about.

There's a bunch of information about it here.
