I recently bought 2 upsidown catfish from my LFS. In the store tank they were swimming around and being very active, but now all they do is sit under my piece of driftwood.
Why is this?
Could it have to do with too much light?

Also, can the algae in algae wafers grow in the tank?
If it does will Bn's and the upside down catfish eat it?

Thanks in advance,

upside downs are fantastic fish - i love them. but they are primarily nocturnal, especially as they age. they can be really active during the day too, but i found mine settled into a rest-all-day, play-all-night routine. i used to watch mine as soon as the lights went out, or you could trick them and have an hour where your lights go out so you can watch them. they prefer a 'twilight' state - eg, room light on, tank light off.

the algae wafers are primarily made from salt-water algae, i believe, but also, i doubt the algae could survive the sterilising process the wafers must go through. i've fed them for years and have never had algae grow from them. maybe because they never last long enough - my sturisomas, angels and apistos make short work of them.

The algae from your algae pellets will not spread. All they would be able to do is decompose and possibly feed algae already in your tank, but that would hurt water quality.

Upside down catfish aren't algae eaters, so they won't care too much either way. They might nibble at the wafers, but that's all.
