I cant get my otos to eat. They are constantly sucking on the gravel and glass, but seem to ignore the zuchinni i have sitting there for them. They really werent in my LFS for too long, as i had bought them within 2 days of arriving there. Ive tried cucumbers and algae wafers and those went unnoticed

Put some flat or rounded stones in a glass and leave it by your window until they start some algae growing. I've also heard tomato is enjoyed by some fish, that might be worth a try. Otos main staple is algae, do you have any live plants in your tank ?

Keep offering the food and eventually they will take it. If they are staying 'full bodied', then I wouldn't force the issue.

maybe they already got enough to eat with your tank algae.

they sometimes work at night, so you never know unless you leave the cucumber in overnight.

and if the food you put it is attacked by other fish, they will most likely stay away from the crowd.

Katie, try breaking up your algae wafers into tiny pieces, scattering them about the aquarium so that the Otocinclus have a chance to find them before the other fish do. And, do it just before "lights out". Pretty soon your Otocinclus will find them, and once they develop a taste for your titbits, they'll be out in the daytime pushing the other fish out of the way for their favourite morsels like mine do!

Thank you all so much. Today i lost one of my otos and a platy. I bought them both at the same time and at the same place, just days after being shipped there. All my other fish are active and hungry, so it looks as though they didnt handle the stress well.

The algae rocks are always appreciated by my otos. Mine also like lettuce and fresh spinach. I anchor it in the tank under one of the algae rocks.

Calilasseia, your idea worked great. He has a big, round belly

Look for the "fingerprint" pattern on the underside Katie ... that's the sign of a full Otocinclus. And when mine are that full, you can see them smiling
