one of my local outlets have a gold nugget plec, it is a wonderful looking fish with great colour, it costs 25 quid (approx 50us)but will it get on with a bristle nose, and then if so will they mate?

It's possible that they may get along; however, I say this with caution as plecs can be aggressive and territorial to other plecs. Some plecs have even been known to kill other plecs. If you give enough hiding places for your plecs, aggression may be reduced. I won't guarantee it, though; if trouble arises you should be prepared to separate your fish.

Gold nuggets will not mate with bristlenoses.

Baryancistrus of the nugget line can be fairly boisterous, but ancistrus species tend to haul their weight around quite well, so I wouldn't be much worried.
