My 6" Panaque (Royal Plec) hides all the time; the only reason I can see him is because he's too big to hide effectively.

aawww - the big oaf!!

bonny i'm pretty sure its not an aggression thing, my angels are very peaceful, they hang out together, and my dwarf gourami wouldn't hurt a fly hes so sweet! (though he might eat one ...)

ahh well, i may consider moving his little home hhaaHHAAAHAAHA <evil rub of hands]

A possibility is to try to move it's favorite hiding spot into a place you can see it when it hides. Another possibility is adjusting the areas of water flow; if there are many hiding spots, water flow becomes a factor in which one the fish eventually picks.

If that doesn't work...

Give up. This is the fact of life with plecs. You could spend $85 on a Zebra Plec and almost never see it if your decor let's them do that; it's just the way they behave. My 6" Panaque (Royal Plec) hides all the time; the only reason I can see him is because he's too big to hide effectively.

None of the other fish show aggression? The angels or gouramis?

haha - maybe its seeing my face peering round the side of the aquarium trying to get a look at him every few hours that does it

no, my RTBS is very friendly - he swims with the other fish, and just spends all day swimming in and out of his cave..

i think i got a wallflower......man thats annoying!!

Hmmm how is your RTB on the agression side of things? MAybe when he does come out your RTB beats him back into his driftwood so when coupled with the fright of seeing you (nothing personal of course) he just won't come out at all.

Or i'll huff and i'll puff and i'lll blow your house (driftwood) down!!!!]:|

...sorry that sounded a bit mean - but thats what i feel like doing sometimes!! I've got this verrry cute little gold stripe panaque (LDA01), hes about 2 inches and sooo cute!!

but i literally NEVER see him - had him for about a month now - occasionally i see a flash of his pretty fins on the back of the dritwood- i assume he comes out only at night..

how can i make him come out? can i trick him into coming out, like using a clear tube, the way you do with black ghost knifes - or is there no feasible way to make a nocturnal fish come out of hiding?

Dunno much about your problem, i think you may just have to entice him out with the prospect of some nice food or just give him time.

How much did he set you back?

well i guess i could move the driftwood so i can see the back through the side wall, but i wanted to see him out in the open more often too - i guess i got a timid one, as others with this fish don't have the same problem BOO HOO!!
