Alright, as many of you know I've recently gotten 7 YoYo Loaches. The problem is that I'm worried about them and I can't seem to find them. I've checked around the tank and they surely haven't jumped out. I can usually find 2 or 3 out of the bunch at any given time.

Now... I'm 99% sure I know where they are, I have this hollow stump thing (see pic below) and I'm pretty sure they're hanging out in the hollow "Legs" of this thing... I'm getting a flashlight later so I can peek inside without having to dislodge them.

My question is... Is it healthy for them to cram them selves in there like that? Should I remove them?[/font]

I used to have a similar problem with my clowns hiding inside a hollow fake tree stump, eventually they got too big to get in there but while they were small enough they would stay in there and i would never see all of them at any one time, which became quite worrying as i never knew if i had lost one.at gravel vac time i would lift the stump out and all would drop out of it.

Gibson SG you know you want one!!

I had the same problem so I filled the hollow legs with glass marbles.

Loaches are great hiders, don't worry if you can't find all of them. As long as they get their food, yours will be content to just hide all day.
If you really want to see them, you might try some kind of night lighting. There are lights availible (I'm not sure what kind) that allow humans to see into a fishtank, while tricking the fish into thinking it's dark. You might give those a shot.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

Well I wanted to check on em so I lifted it up a bit and found 6 of my 7 (I think) and was satisfied with that. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a dead one about...

If they're in the little stem parts, you could probably just fill it with silicone and they would only be able to get under the stump, not "up" the roots, if that is infact the problem.

I'd say that it depends whether they are forcing themselves in there or not. Do you know whether they have much room in your hidey hole things?

My clown loaches used to do this in their fake tree stumps but they've stopped now, mainly because I think they are too big. I have noticed one with a scratch on it before though so it could be from the decorations.

If theres plenty of room, i wouldn't worry, but if you can see them squeezing against the edges, then I'd find something bigger to put in the tank.

fish react to red light as nighttime. you can stretch some red material or cellophane over a frame and place it under your lights (as the cheeper version) or you can buy a couple aquatic led lights and bury them in the corners of your tanks and places like that. all you need is red globes and the fish come out. This is why hunters and reptile keepers use red lights, in the hunters case it allows them to spot animals without the animals spotting them. and with reptiles it just helps the owners to see their nocturnal investments movinmg about. hope this helps

They still may be adjusting to their new home. I have queen, kuhlis, black kuhlis, and dwarf loaches...I've found once they're comfortable in the tank they tend not to hide as much. They only thing I'd be concerned about is one of them getting stuck
