The are omnivorous IME, and will clean some algae off the tank surfaces. After an absence of about two weeks, and without any fish losses, my hillstream was still burdened with a full belly when I returned. According to Southeastern Asian icthyologists M. Kottelat and A.J. Whitten, spotties tend to feed mostly on detritus and vegetable matter. |

In fact, I have only in 6 months seen him eat a food type other than algae once, and that was only a single taste and yuck face. They are a great algae eater in my opinion, but should always have their diet aided with a meatier food available to them should they like it.
