Guys,

I currently have 5 peppered corys in my community tank and would like to increase the number to at least 8. Is there a general rule as to how many to add at one time?

Say you have plenty of room available and have a shoal of 6 corys and want to inrease to 12. Do you add six at one time or gradually build the number up?

How big is the tank and how long has it been running?

I just added seven corys all at once to a 55-gallon tank that has been running for 6 months, with absolutely no problems.

But if it were a 10-gallon tank, adding seven corys at a time would have been too much. And if it was newly cycled, I might have been more cautious, because the bacterial balance takes awhile to stabilize.

If you're only planning to add three and the tank isn't miniscule, I can't imagine you'd have a problem adding them all at once as long as the tank is cycled. And as I said, I just added seven all at once, although my tank was understocked to begin with. Just keep an eye on things, and you should be fine.

LMuha,

Tank is 45gal and has been up for over 3 months. It is slightly understocked at present. I will probably add another 3 corys at once and see how they go.

That's a decent-sized tank; I can't imagine you'd have a problem. (Even if you're cycling a tank, they tell you to add fish two or three at a time.)

well..thats a big tank...i dont think u need to worry about adding around 3-5 or even 6 fish at once...but...make it sure..its not more than 2 inches as to avoid mini-cycle.

You can add 6 Corydoras together. I don't see any problems with a cycled understocked tank.
