 | Intentionally growing algae |
NFaustman Enthusiast Posts: 172 Kudos: 163 Votes: 78 Registered: 13-Jun-2005   | I read in "Aquariums for Dummies" that you can actually grow algae for species that eat it by placing a rock in a jar full of water and leaving it next to a window. Does anyone do this/ever done this for their algae-eating fish such as BN plecos? "I am a believer in punctuality, though it makes me very lonely" EV Lucas |

I did this sort of thing way back in 1994 when setting up the Panda Fun Palace™ for its first occupants. Which were, yes, Otocinclus catfishes. You can use rocks, small bits of bogwood, tacky aquarium ornaments, just about anything with a reasonably solid surface upon which the algae will grow. In fact, I can't think of a better use for some aquarium ornaments  |
