Hey FreeBlaze...I'm in Baton Rouge...Geaux Tigers!!!

Nice to see a local!!! I've been following your problem with the Kuhlis -- so sorry, man.

I think I saw some Kuhlis in Baton Rouge at one of our LFS the other day, but don't quote me on that.

Are there a lot of places to check out in NOLA??? I've been trying to find some new places to get more fish than I need, , but I don't know where to look in New Orleans.

If you want to look in Baton Rouge, let me know and I'll ask around for you.

See ya!!!

One of the 3 kuhlis in my tank seems to have faded in color and its gills are almost purple. I am keeping an eye on him, can't figure it out. The others are doing great and so are the rest of the comunity. I haven't seen any black kuhlis, I was lucky to run across these guys.

I know a lot of the fish stores I had contacted in MD lately were saying similar problems with their Khuli's and their stock dieing out.

However after waiting a couple of weeks I was able to find 3 different types of Khulie's I was so excited, stripped, black and gold. They were up at Exotic Aquatics in Baltimore, I got 3 of the black ones and they are going strong in my tank!

If anyone is in the DC/BWI area looking for kuhlis, Aquarium Center in Randallstown has both black and striped. Not bad prices either.

Yeah, that was one of the places that said their khulies had been falling ill and dieing a lot lately. I was just in there like a week or two ago and saw some of them again.

I'm not... really a big fan of that place though... :/

I was at my LFS today and they had some Khulis that were only 1 inch long. I wish I had room for the little guys.

Kuhlis are equally rare here. I once was elated when I found two at a nearby lfs. They cost me US$.0.90 a pair.. a real steal. But the problem was... i was devastated when they merely lasted three days in my 30g tank (cycled and good water params)

Have never found any lfs that keep them ever since.

I buy alot of my fish at Mr. Fish in Mandeville or causeway pets in metairie. The common pet shops around here arent bad.

BTW. I gave up on Kuhlis's LOL

I am going to wait until later on in the season before i get any more...

I picked up a golden dojo loach at an lfs here in Rapid City, SD about a month and a half ago -- he was only about $5 US. He's a riot to watch, too. My roommate and I agree that his antics of rapidly whipping around near the surface on the sunward side of the tank resembles some kind of mythical Asiatic dragon -- hence his name: Cthulu. Cthulu has developed a habit of swimming headlong into the bubble stream coming off my power heads, just to see how close he can get. After one eventually blasts him back, he turns around and does it to the other one.

He is currently only about 4", so I even picked up a little plastic skull for him to hide in, if for no other reason than the visual gag of a bright orange dojo sort of eeling his way in and out of the eye sockets for shrimp pellets. And my god, does he love bloodworms...

I've heard these guys like company, so I think I'll get one or two more after I "upgrade" my 55g -- I think I'm pretty well pushing my stock limit with 3 koi, a plec, and a dojo. I'm probably getting a 125-200 next summer, since a pond is out of the question for a few years.

Good luck to all of you out there hunting for a dojo/kuhli/weather loach -- they certainly are entertaining. Have you considered ordering them online? Shipping looks pretty painful, plus you don't get to see the conditions they're kept in, but it's not like we're dealing with an otto here -- you know, something that might die if you look at it funny the day you bring it home. Ack. Just my 2...

I got 3 last saturday for my 50 gallon and they seem to be doing well. They are swimming about most of the time. What do you feed your kuhlis?

Make sure the tank is escape proof. I found them everyday in the sump. It became ruotine to have to net them out and return them to the tank. THey were quite hardy though
