My girlfriend is in love with the out of control scavengers but of course once she bought a couple and decided she wanted more they are no where to be found in any of our lfs's. Not the straight black/brown ones, but the ones with yellow/orange stripes. On a recent trip to a not so local lfs, the manager informed us that those particular kuhlii's are now on the endangered species list and will be hard to come by. Definately since that time every store we've been to gives us the line "Hmm... We haven't gotten those in in quite some time" But I haven't found anything in my research, I was wondering if anyone else had heard the same thing.

I do know that last year, their breeding season completly sucked, almost all of them brought to the LFS were dead, or died in a few days.

I dont know how they can be on the endangered list, they live fairly long (15+ years) so they have alot of time to reproduce.

I just did a little bit of research and as far as I can tell, they are not endangered. If you really want one, (I think they're cool too!) you can buy them off of the internet. http://www.liveaquaria.com/ Has the black ones, but I don't know about the striped ones, though.

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking too. I mean the guy is pretty knowledgable and he is the manager of one of the larger lfs's in Colorado, so I don't know. I just really find it hard to believe especially not being able to find info out on the net.

Thanks for the thoughts and posts.

Just put the species name into the IUCN red list.

[link=http://www.redlist.org]http://www.redlist.org" style="COLOR: #FFFFFF[/link]

It is not even a threatened species, let alone endangered

Yeah, the black ones are in every lfs around here but they aren't as attractive as the striped ones and we've only been able to locate 3 from all of our searching. I was just making sure that they weren't endangered becasue than we'd really be wasting out time trying to find more. But it gives us an excuse to go fish shopping (like we need one )

I think it depends what country you are in, In the UK I've seen them in black, brown, striped, albino and albino striped!
I love kuhli's. They were the reason I got into fish keeping because I saw this cute little guy hunting around in the bottom of a friends tank and I thought, 'I have to have one!'.

Used to have a striped one. It only showed up every once in a while though. It was really fat.
