Just double checking before I buy. After looking at other species of small plecos I decided there is no point in paying $120+ for zebra plecos when there are a dozen black and white plecos in existence.
L103, Peckoltia sp. vittata is a 4" peaceful algae eater? Can I put some in a 55g with a royal pleco? The royal is about 6" now and I'm going tomorrow to ask what size tanks the lfs can order in. A 120 would be nice if I could actually find one. So in the next month or 2 they should be sharing at least a 90g instead.

Change that... They have the wrong L number. Looks like L134.

L134... the leopard frog pleco.

They do grow to four inches long, but aren't the best algae eaters. They don't usually clean the glass well at all, but will sometimes take care of algae on decorations or the substrate. They are usually peaceful fish, but will sometimes squabble with other Peckoltia species if not enough space is given them.

That leads to my next point. I'd be wary of sticking these fish in a tank with a royal pleco, especially if it is that much larger than the Pecks. The royals are more territorial towards other Loricariids than the frogs are, and are bigger, too. Since that royal is already six inches and established in its own home, it may well feel the inclination to beat the other plecs around the tank. I'd hold off on the L134s until you can give them a living area that isn't dominated by a larger pleco.

I started to give you L103 info... until you changed it!:%)

The L103 looks like it holds it's yellow color throughout adulthood and it has less black on the fins. The pleco I'm thinking of getting turns whiter as adult and has nearly solid stripes across the fins. It's possibly L049 but much more likely to be L134. How many could I put in a 29g? I'd have to add more rock work as the tank only has 1 cave right now but I moved out the gold nugget to a bigger tank. The royal has never acted agressive toward another bottom dweller so I may try it but only with a backup plan. A few otos will always solve the algae problem if the plecos don't.

Royals are shy and reclusive--until feeding time. Then you'd better freaking watch out, as they will use their girth to charge towards food, and will guard it with a passion. I kept my royal in with several other ancistri genera, including baryancistrus, ancistrus, panaque, and leporacanthicus. I had no problems. BTW, I'm sure you already have plans for the royal, but just in case, they get too large for a 55.

I'm no longer sure which fish you're talking about now--the lepard frog, the candystripe, or the L-49 (which is a rare species, so I'd surprised if you actually found one in a normal LFS)

Already mentioned I'm getting at least a 90g but if I can find one a 120g. I'm not getting them from an lfs but a pleco fanatic that got them online somewhere. He said they are L103 but that doesn't really match the fish I saw. L49 or L134 are the 2 possible matches but like you said L49 isn't common.
I can put them in the 29g or the 55g. The 29g has only 1 cave right now with 4 yoyos as bottom dwellling fish and the 55g has tons of hiding places but a royal pleco. I'm also upgrading the 55(just got done looking at the lfs prices). So I'm just deciding where best to put them and how many. As for the royal.. My farlowella has taken algae wafers from him.
