Hi all,
I am swamped with Krib Fry. I have about 35 - 40 6 week old fry in a 180 gallon tank. Parents are still protecting them. I have 11 4 month old Kribs in a grow-out tank. My LFS's have been taking them but are not moving them that fast and are going to start refusing more. I'm thinking of adding some Loaches to the tank to try and control the eggs that the adults are producing. I have Clown Loaches in my 120 gallon tank, I won't move them cause they have done so well in the tank and I don't want more Clowns. I was considering a large school of 9 - 12 4" loaches, maybe Striata's (Zebra's). I didn't know if they could do the job I want or if I should consider another Loach or a different fish all together. I know the Clowns could handle the Kribs and that they wouldn't hurt the Kribs either, I just don't want fish that large. Other inhabitants include two 8" Tinfoil Barbs, 7 Giant Danios, 5 Australian Rainbows, one Parrotfish and the two adult Kribs.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Just leave the fry in the tank with the parents, and don't remove them. The parents will continue to guard the fry till they are swimming. But, as long as the fry are there, and the parents are guarding them, they will not lay more eggs. It may be several months or more before they will lay eggs again. By this time, you may be able to get rid of the new kribs easier at the lfs. And, you have plenty of room in that tank for the more fish. So you could actually grow them out more before taking them to the lfs, and thus maybe get more money for the larger grown out kribs.

HTH.......

yoyo loaches stay small and are active in the day alot. they wont hesitate to robb some eggs and they are semi agressive so can handle a pair of kribs defending a batch.
