My wife just bought a long-finned pleco for her 30 gallon. I cant identify this thing anywhere. I searched planet catfish and our profiles. It isn't a sailfin and it isnt a common plec. It has long flowing fins everywhere. Almost as frail as that of a long fin guppy. My digital camera is shot or I would post a pic. Anyone know what this speciman is from the description? It is almost colored like a common plec. Please tell me it ain't a tank buster LOL! I had a huge plec for 6 years and he ate up way too much stocking space in my 55. He was comfotable but I had a low stock because of him

I can almost guarentee that it's an ancistrus species fish, rather, a fish commonly known as the "bristle nosed" plecostomus.

It is similar to this but the fins are longer. There arent bristles on his nose. One place I read along with this pic said it is a mutation and there is limited info on it. This fish is a little bit darker in color also than the pic. LOL

EDIT and it has white tipped tail and dorsal fins.

Not all ancistrus get bristles. As you recede south from central america, the bristles tend to, as a general rule, get smaller for differents species. This occurs to a point in which some females never even obtain birstles. On the other hand, it could be a juvenile.
