Well, since I put Petey, my dwarf rubbernose back into the 29' he has taken up residence inside the large driftwood thingy I got at petsmart. Its hollow with many ins and outs andnow I see him every couple weeks or so. longest time was 3 weeks. altho be careful cause he likes to stay inside to decoration, even when it is removed from the tank for cleaning. good thing his end hold water

I thought you got rid of the rhino pleco?

There are many species of loricariids under the title of "snowball". It's hard to say which species he has.

I bought 2 BNs quite recently which were tiny and I was worried that I'd wouldn't see them for weeks. However if I hang around for long enough I usually find them sucking on a leaf or rock somewhere. They are so gorgeous and I can't wait for them to get a bit bigger!

The longest I have ever gone without seeing common pleco was about a year. I put him in my pond in the spring planning on taking him out sometime in the fall. To make a long story short I couldnt find him in the fall, thought he had died and saw him at about 5 inches longer a year later....I couldnt figure out how he survived the winter.

My Common Pleco is a little too social. He never hides. Not even for 5 mins. His idea of hiding is camouflaging himself against one of the 3 woods in the tanks.

Hiding... wat is that? Isnt that something the silly Clown Loaches do

To my amazement I spotted my snowball pleco the other day alive and well. I honestly had not seen this fish for about a month.

To Cup o' Life Noodles: I hope I didn't sound harsh when I said "Please re-read my post" It wasn't meant that way!!! Sometimes without the benefit of voice inflection and body language things can sound rude, and now that I reread that, it sounded rude. Sorry!!

To SnowBall Pleo owner: I could not open the pic!! I will have to try again because I am very curious what this pleco looks like.

I got the picture open this time. He/she is beeeeautiful!!!! I want one, I want one!!! How big will it get? Aggressive? (sounds like not, since he hides a lot). He reminds me of a Golden Nugget Pleco (fairly pricey)

Please give me more info on this little fella if you can. He's gorgeous!!! And I am looking for a new pleco to take Plecy-Boy's place.:%)

One more thing to snowball's owner:

Your tank is an awesome setup. Is that all natural plants ?

Is it difficult to do a gravel vac with those plants? I am going to buy a 125g this year and want to do something similar to your setup.

My compliments

I see the big one - Common fairly often but I never used to see him at all, he was a gift from a friend she called him Lurch but I call him velvet Very graceful he is one of my favourite fish.

the little one in the 25 i never see him, he only comes out at night - well i think so, i guess i see him maybe once a week.

i do like them though, find them fascinating.

rasboramary,

Thanks for the compliments on fish and tank.
The pleco I did purchase from a lfs for about $30. He's a dwarf so I think the biggest will be 5 or 6 inches. It's defintely my favorite fish, but as you know it does hide alot.

Yes, my tank is all natural plants. I only gravel wash in the open areas and do 20% water changes/weekly.

Sometimes it is necessary to pick up the java moss in the front on the gravel. Rinse it out and place it back down. Also the plants are trimmed and replanted from time to time so when I do that I gravel wish the area before replanting.

I have 3 BN in my tank & it's very difficult to see the together. Somtimes i see 1 or 2, but very rarely all of them. I have a few hiding places, so it's not very difficult for them to hide away.

Here's a suggestion, slowly and carefully remove each and every decoration from the tank, check for large holes or small holes, if it's a small hole put it back in, we'll deal with that in a bit....look inside the large holes and see if he is in one of them, make sure to put these ornaments, what-have-you in another bucket or container that has water in it, he still might be in there

Now look at the things with small cracks and holes, look into them, you might need help, and you will need a good strong flashlight, and look all in it (I'm betting he's in one of these), eventually you will probably find him.

I know the one I had in with my goldfish would always go and hide in the castle and get stuck...one of my Albino BN and clown loaches each have a favorite place in this one big chunk of driftwood I have in my 125, didn't realize it had become the favorite hiding place for the little BN guy until I put it in the bathtub and he decided he'd had enough and started to swim in the bathtub, it must have been crazy to watch me run about trying to dechlorinate the bathtub, check temp, catch said BN, and look on the floor for the other one I was afraid may have jumped out as well:%)

More than likely he is in there and doing well on some really good yummies, or you will find the remains, either way you'll know for sure...

Good Luck, heidi
